These colorful overglaze painted ceramics got their start during the mid-17th century in a village in what is now Kaga City, and feature five traditional colors known as the Kutani Gosai: green, yellow, ultramarine blue, purple, and red. They are painted in a wide variety of styles, from traditional designs like flowers and birds to more modern designs.
